Eng 201 Rhetorical Thinking Winter 2016 Syllabus

Description: This course begins with a unit on rhetorical theory for beginners. There are short readings on rhetoric, but really we learn what we need to know by “doing rhetoric” on various visual and printed texts. Students then complete three short Writing in the Disciplines (WID) Projects. The final project is a take home exam where they use the rhetorical analysis processes they have learned to analyze their three WID projects. Using language and rhetoric as a theme eliminates the need to assign readings and use class time to develop a theme. What the students learn about language and literacy is what they apply to their own work.
